Continued demand for skilled chefs across Ireland

In the hospitality industry, being aware of the in-demand jobs is essential for strategic planning and resource allocation.

So far in 2023, jobs in the hospitality sector on Jobs.ie have received the most applications. Employers in the sector have experienced a 50% rise in applications year-to-date compared to the same period in 2022.  While the rise in applications is positive for employers in hospitality, talent shortages remain a challenge, particularly in relation to chefs.

In 2022, the Irish tourism business group Itic called for an increase in working permits for the sector, saying the shortage of chefs continues to ‘plague the sector’.  An analysis of jobs posted by hospitality employers in the third quarter of this year reveals chefs featuring prominently in the top ten. It seems the demand for skilled chefs shows no sign of abating.

It’s essential for recruiters to have an understanding of the most sought-after hospitality jobs. This knowledge allows them to modify their talent acquisition strategies and hiring schedules accordingly. As well as ensuring their job descriptions are accurate, up-to-date, and transparent, employers should continue to benchmark their salaries, review the benefits they offer and ensure their employer value proposition (EVP) is compelling so they can stand out in this competitive labour market for highly skilled professionals.
