Demand for hospitality staff unrelenting

Ireland’s summer season is well underway, and the demand for talent in hospitality is unrelenting. Our analysis of job posting data over the last three months shows that jobs in the industry are up 60% compared to the same time last year and have grown 18% compared to the first three months of 2022. The hospitality sector’s rebound from Covid is almost complete, with jobs now within shouting distance of their pre-pandemic levels.

While jobs are plentiful, a scarcity of staff is putting employers under immense pressure at their busiest time of year. And yet, the two sectors delivering the highest number of applications in June on Jobs.ie were jobs in hotels and jobs in restaurants. It’s clear the imbalance between the number of opportunities and the number of people interested in working in the industry persists.

Scroll down for our data deep dive into hiring in hotels, bars and restaurants with information on the roles most popular with job seekers and the professionals most sought after by employers.

Christopher Paye, General Manager of Jobs.ie comments, “In a hiring environment where demand outstrips supply, initiatives to attract more talent are always welcome. With industry bodies lobbying hard for fast-tracking work permits and critical skills permits for chefs, Jobs.ie Global Hiring allows hard-pressed employers to put their jobs in front of international talent as easily as they would at home.

Finally, the passing of the Payments of Wages Tips and Gratuities Bill into law comes at an opportune moment. With increases in the cost of living a real concern for many people, the new law, which will ensure that tips and gratuities are distributed fairly to hospitality staff, can only help increase the sector’s appeal to job seekers. “
