Will people find my job?
Many people search for jobs using the job title so think of the words people will use to search for your job.
Use the most obvious job title to maximise the chances of your job appearing in search results. So for example if the vacancy is for a “Care Worker” then use that title and don’t use a title like “Wellbeing Assistant”.
Don’t be tempted to make your job stand out with an unusual title, or perhaps make a role sound more prestigious with an elaborate title. It’s counterproductive; your goal is for that as many people as possible to view your job.
Think about the relevance of your job title. We’ve found that a jobseeker will often enter the job title they are looking for in the search box on the home page, for example instead of Web Developer try Java Web Developer.
It sounds obvious but make sure the job title reflects the job description, a job for a sales manager will be very different a job for a sales executive.
Do people know where my job is based?
Nobody likes a long commute so, when searching for jobs, jobseekers will always use the location filter to find jobs close to where they live.
That means it’s a good idea to state clearly where your job is based. This is particularly important if you are posting your job with multiple locations selected, for examples if your job is based in Navan but you are posting it to appear in a search for jobseekers based in Meath, Cavan and Louth.
If your job requires people to travel then it can be helpful to let them know where their base will be e.g. for a field sales representative covering the West of Ireland, will they work out Galway city or elsewhere?
Will the people I want apply for my job?
Give jobseekers a clear idea about the skills and qualities that are required for the job. Think about what the job will involve and the responsibilities you’d expect them to take on if they get the job.
This job description checklist will help you make sure you are covering all the bases;
