Bounce back begins

Jobs have begun to bounce back with the lifting of lockdown. As we moved from May to June job posting activity increased by 30% on Jobs.ie.

Encouragingly, the majority of employment categories (3 out of 46) saw an increase in listings,  with healthcare/medical & nursing, restaurants/catering and call centre/customer service the top-performing sectors in terms of volume.

However, jobs remain 64% lower than the preCovid month of February with those sectors most affected by the lockdown and social distancing restrictions the most severely impacted.

Strong candidate activity

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 candidate activity on Jobs.ie has been high. As more people entered the market to find work the numbers visiting Jobs.ie increased, up  25% in June. Recruiters are getting a strong response to their job posting on the platform with the number of applications per job rising by 28%. In total over 200,000 applications were made on Jobs.ie last month.

Looking ahead

The Government’s job stimulus plan which aims to boost jobs and help businesses after the Covid-19 pandemic will be announced early next week. The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has promised a jobs initiative that will be “radical and far-reaching” with supports expected for small businesses and the sectors of the economy most impacted by the pandemic.
