A revitalised job market

Our latest data deep-dive shows a job market revitalised thanks to the easing of Covid restrictions, the successful vaccination programme and, most notably, the reopening of hospitality.

The number of jobs posted on Jobs.ie increased by 67% in April, May and June compared to the first three months of this year.

Industries forced to suppress their recruitment because of Covid restrictions experienced the biggest rebound in jobs with postings for roles in hotel and catering increasing by 273%, Beauty, Hair Care, Leisure & Sport up 183% and Tourism, Travel and Airlines up 454%.

23 of the 28 sectors examined all experienced an increase in job listings compared to the first three months of this year while, compared to twelve months ago when the country was in its first lockdown, jobs have increased 201%.

The hospitality sector reported the largest increase in jobs in Q2, shooting it to the top of the list of sectors with the most available jobs. The top five sectors for job posting across April, May and June are Hotel and Catering, Sales, Managers/Supervisor, Medical/Healthcare and Security/Trades and General Services.

Jobs.ie General Manager, Christopher Paye comments “ We have come a long way since this time last year and while everyone welcomes the job market’s return to strength there is no doubt that this demand for staff is putting pressure on businesses, and in particular employers in hospitality.

With a choice of opportunities available to jobseekers, employers may have to double down on their talent attraction strategies. For people looking for a new job or a change of career, the job market has never been better. During the Covid lockdowns people hunkered down. With the recovery gathering pace, there is pent-up demand for people who want to change jobs or even careers.  The next half of this year will be incredibly vigorous for recruiters and candidates alike.”
