Leaving everything behind, Ukrainian people are fleeing the conflict in their country. Ireland is joining countries across the EU offering refuge to those seeking safety. Government ministers say they expect between 80,000 and 100,000 people to arrive here, with about a third likely to be children.

Travelling to Ireland
The Irish government has waived the requirement for a visa for Ukrainian people to travel to Ireland.
All immigration services and airlines must be satisfied as to the identity of a person presenting at a border. However, in order to facilitate travel for Ukrainian nationals fleeing the conflict zone, a pragmatic and humane approach will be taken while maintaining appropriate immigration and security controls.
Carriers have been asked to accept Government issued identity documents, not usually acceptable for international travel, in lieu of a national passport: including, for example, National ID Cards, Birth Certificates, Internal Passports, and expired passports.
In response to the crisis, the EU announced that the Temporary Protection Directive now applies to all Ukrainians leaving their country. Temporary protection is an exceptional measure to provide immediate and temporary protection to displaced persons from non-EU countries.
It means Ukrainians are allowed to work and access services and benefits without making an application for international protection (refugee status). This applies to Ukrainian citizens and their families. It also applies to people who live in Ukraine and cannot return to their country of origin. It is valid for one year but could be extended, if necessary.

Arrival in Ireland
The Irish government have set up a reception centre at Dublin airport for arriving Ukrainians. Here you can provide the Irish officials with your details, and they will provide the documentation to show you can stay in Ireland. They can also help you to get somewhere to stay and help with money.
If you are already in Ireland and you have nowhere to stay, you can email the International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) at ipasinbox@equality.gov.ie.
Healthcare
You can access healthcare in Ireland. You can also apply for a medical card which will allow you to access healthcare services for free and get medicines for a reduced price.
Education
If you have arrived in Ireland with children then the Tusla Education Support Service can help you find a school.
Social Welfare
You can apply for social welfare (financial support) when you arrive in Ireland from Ukraine.
You need to get a PPS number (an Irish social security number). The PPS number is required to access the job market and other State services which you are entitled to do as a beneficiary of the Temporary Protection Directive.
PPS numbers are issued by the Department of Social protection and arrangement are being put in place to issue people with PPS numbers on arrival in the State or as soon as possible after their arrival.
If you are already in Ireland you should go to your local Intreo Centre or Branch Office and staff will help you to get a PPSN. Branch Offices (the offices that provide social welfare services in Ireland) to process your PPSN as quickly as possible.
