Job Description

Purchasing Officer

Permanent

Location: Co. Kildare

Reports to Manufacturing Manager

The successful candidate will evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts, and review product quality.  He/she will be responsible for the timely procurement of goods and services, ensuring cost effectiveness commensurate with quality. The incumbent will promote and maintain a high level of communication and liaison with external suppliers.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers and evaluate based on price, quality and delivery speed
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Meet with staff and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action
  • Evaluate and monitor contracts to be sure that vendors and supplies comply with the terms and conditions of the contract and to determine the need for changes
  • Maintain and review records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories
  • Work out agreements with suppliers, such as when products will be delivered
  • Plan, forecast and monitor upcoming levels of demand
  • Monitor and maintain tight control of stock levels

Requirements:

  • Proven working experience as purchasing role (agent or officer)
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
  • Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
  • A knack for negotiation and networking
  • Ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures
  • Solid judgement along with decision making skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • A degree in supply change management, logistics or business administration would be helpful
  • IIPCS certification would be an advantage but not essential
