Entry Requirements

Must be a qualified primary school teacher

 

Career Options

Primary School Teachers are entitled to 3 EPV days during the school year (2009-2010) on successful completion of this programme.

Who should participate in this course?

Primary School Teachers who wish to improve the effectiveness of the classroom team.

 


General Aims

Currently the Department of Education and Science currently employs over 6,000 assistants working in the school system. Well Trained Special Needs Assistants are a key resource in schools and when utilized correctly add greatly to the smooth running of the classroom and the integration of children with special needs into the mainstream school system. This course will give the practitioner an understanding of the role the Special Needs Assistant plays in the development of the student while in the school environment.

 


Duration

The duration of this course is 20 hours and is wholly facilitated through online learning.

Assessment Method

On-line Forums: each unit requires a formal response to the online forum. Discussions are formulated, each learner needs to make a minimum of one statement on the forum and reply to one of the other learner’s statements. All discursive materials are reviewed continually by the College’s online course moderator.

Formal Assessment - one piece is required at the end of each unit.


Multiple Choice Assessment - a multiple choice assignment given at the end of each unit of study. This is given to ensure clear understanding of each aspect of the course.

 

Qualifications

A certificate is given on successful completion of the programme on Continuing Professional Development.
