Course Overview

Learning to design a website requires mastering many different skills from organizing the structure of the website, making sure it is easy to use and navigate, to designing the graphics and layout of the information. This course concentrates on the fundamentals of building a website. It starts with the basics, using HTML code to build a basic site giving the learner a solid foundation in how a website is designed. It then moves on to using a html editor - Adobe Dreamweaver - to design a website in a more user friendly environment.

Adobe Dreamweaver is the leading industry web design software and is used by the majority of major companies and organizations in Ireland and indeed the world. It allows the user to design web page templates and styles sheets which significantly reduces the time the web designer needs to spend on website design and maintenance. The final section of the course introduces the learner to Adobe Fireworks. Abobe Fireworks can be used to manipulate images, design rollover buttons and create a webpage layout which can be brought into Dreamweaver and used as a template for a website.

This course is suitable for people who are already competent PC users who wish to design/maintain websites. The learners must be very familiar with browsing and using the web. Prior knowledge of web site design would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite as the course is designed to teach the learners from the beginning.

Who accredits this course?

At the end of the program the students are requested to design and publish their own website. The student will be assessed upon their website design and awarded an IBaT Diploma in Web Design.

This course is also FETAC Accredited. FETAC is one of Ireland national awarding bodies. The student would then be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Component Award in Web Authoring.

Learner protection for this programme is provided in accordance with section 43 of the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999.

How long is the course?

One evening per week over 9 weeks and starts regularly in both our Swords and City Centre campuses. Please contact us for upcoming start dates.

The course fees are €700.
