Course Syllabus - Practical Life Execises
  • Exercises in elementary movement
  • Exercises in care of the environment

  • Principles and use of the Montessori practical life materials
 

Course Syllabus - Sensorial Exercises
  • Rationale and techniques necessary to ensure development of sensory growth
  • Introduction of materials in sequential order with emphasis on the three-period lesson, sensory perception, repetition, control of error and language
  • Distinct training in presentation techniques
 

Course Syllabus - Mathematics
  • Teaching the basic skills of mathematics using hands-on materials
  • Developmental procedures from the sandpaper numerals through the decimal system and the operations of arithmetic
  • Number quantity and symbols
 

Course Syllabus - Language Exercises
  • The analysis of language as spoken and written communication
  • Rationale for the sensory-motor involvement with emphasis on the sequence of skills to be developed to assist the child's natural growth towards effective spoken and written communication
  • Phonetic analysis, initial writing,handwriting skills, and beginning grammer skills are taught as a foundation for total reading

Who should participate in this course?

The course is suitable for learners who wish to take up a role teaching children, in the age range 3-6, through the Montessori Method of Education.

 


General Aims
  • To provide learners with a detailed understanding of the Montessori Method of Education applicable to children in the age range from (3-6)
  • To prepare learners for taking up a role in a montessori setting working with children in the age range (3-6)
 


Entry Requirements

Learners are required to have a pass Leaving certificate or equivalent and be over the ages of 18.

This course will be run in the following locations:

  • Donegal
  • Dublin - Blackrock
  • Dundalk
  • Longford
  • Navan (outreach tuesday & Thursday mornings)
  • Tralee
  • Waterford

Work Experience

Learners must complete a minimum of 40 hours working in a Montessori setting with children in the age range of (3-6).  Work experience may be undertaken in a paid or voluntary capacity.

 

Assessment Method

Continous assessment of course work including projects, teaching manuals and assignments

  • Level 7/8 Degree in Montessori in a third level College
  • Therapeutic Play FETAC Level 6 Component Certificate
  • ILM First Line Management Level 3
  • Start your own Business FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate
  • Operating an Early Years Centre FETAC Level  5 Component Certificate
 

Career Options

Montessori Teacher for children in the age range 3-6 years in a Montessori School or crèche or playgroup.

This is also an internationally recognised qualification and you will be able to travel abroad and use your skills throughout the world. In this regard your teaching manual will be invaluable in demonstrating the standard of work you have achieved.

Open and run your own Montessori School for children in the age range 3-6 years.
