Management Training (Motivating & Managing Teams)

Motivating and Managing Team

About the Course

The course will benefit any team leader, supervisor or manager responsible for leading, controlling and motivating others. The course is particularly valuable for newly appointed team leaders faced with significant change or any longer serving first line or middle managers who haven’t had the benefit of any formal training and may need to refresh their skills. It focuses on getting the best out of the team and is relevant therefore for any delegate who wishes to improve their people management skills.

Course Aims & Objectives

Successful team leaders achieve their objectives by developing flexibility within their team and inspiring team members to have confidence in themselves and in each other. This is an action packed and exciting course that covers the key areas of Team Dynamics, Team Attitudes and Motivation. We use questionnaires, instruction sessions, case studies and practical exercises to equip you with the skills you need to help you and each member of your team to fulfil their maximum potential.

Motivation starts with You

You won’t be judged by the trainer or by other delegates but you will be offered lots of motivational techniques to practice and use during the programme. In particular, there there will be opportunities for you to assess your own strengths and weaknesses. As the training progresses you will be encouraged to develop a performance improvement programme for yourself. You’ll also learn how to manage the performance of your team more effectively by matching your leadership style more closely to team member needs.

Time Management - Core Subjects

What is a team?

Clarify what differentiates a team from just a group of people and the advantages and potential disadvantages of adopting a team approach.

Team Dynamics

Identifying the personalities, attitudes and characteristics of team members and the team itself. You will learn how to identify and analyse the team as well as manage the relationships between the different personality types. The purpose of this section of the course is to make you more comfortable with the team dynamic and profile so you will gain the most out the team.

Leading and Developing your Team

Understand your personal team profile and leadership profile and which leadership styles to adopt when team building, developing team performance or dealing with conflict in the team.

Motivational techniques

What approaches do your adopt for motivating individuals and teams? An exploration of motivational case studies and theories in motivation will provide you with the necessary information to allow you to choose what will work for you. By the end of this session you will be able to conduct an objective motivation analysis on any member of the team, including yourself. You will also be easily able to agree targets appropriate to the team member, and offer constructive comment on rewards and incentives.

Facing Difficulties together

The objective is to reassure delegates that team leaders face many similar problems and to generate some options for approaching the typical issues that arise on a day-to-day basis.

Improving Communications

Undertake an analysis to identify root causes of communications problems and barriers and compensate for weaker communications through active listening.

Case study – ‘Meltdown’

Delegates analyse a case study in small groups to identify the causes of communication problems rather than just the effects. They will then assess the relevancy and potential use of a communications audit in their own team.

Correction

Understanding the difference between informal correction and the formal disciplinary procedure and applying a set of approaches for criticising constructively and assertively.

Managing relationships

The objective of this session is to illustrate the importance of the human factor in managing relationships with individual members of the team and to provide an opportunity for delegates to compare their style and approach with other managers with similar responsibilities. Different authority styles will provide background information on this section of the programme.

Methodology

The principal method of learning is through practical exercises and role play. At the end of the course participants will have the confidence and ability to motivate and manage teams successfully.

The duration of the Motivating & Managing Teams course is one and two days. The cost of the course is 690Euro for one day and 1380Euro for two days based on individual tuition. Group Discounts apply to course for three or more participants.
