MSc in Computer Science by Negotiated Learning (MSc.NL) - Cloud Computing Stream

The MSc in Computer Science by Negotiated Learning is a two year part-time postgraduate programme, which provides a thorough foundation in the practical aspects of the development and management of modern Information Systems (IS) with a special focus on Cloud Computing. It is offered in conjunction with University College Dublin (UCD).

Audience

This programme is particularly suitable for experienced IT professionals in the public and private sectors who wish to gain postgraduate academic accreditation for their experience and upgrade their IT knowledge and skills with a specialism in Cloud Computing.

Delivery and Duration

The MSc.NL uses the most up-to-date teaching methods, including intensive workshops and labs; professional documentation; hands-on training and lectures.

The programme commences in September 2012.  It is divided into three semesters: September to December; January to May; June to August.  Students will attend workshops and lectures at both the Institute of Public Administration, Ballsbridge and UCD, Belfield.

Programme Content

Negotiated learning means that each student negotiates with the Course Director a coherent suite of course modules which best suits her/his own learning needs.  Thus each student can follow a unique path to arrive at the MSc. Award. There are four Cloud Computing modules:

  • Virtualisation and a Cloud Computing Overview
  • Security in the Cloud Computing Environment (Part I)
  • Web Services, Implementation and Configuring in the Cloud Computing Environment
  • Development Tools and Security (Part II) in the Cloud Computing Environment

A sample of other MSc.NL course modules includes:

  • Distributed Systems
  • Human Compute Interaction
  • Knowledge Engineering
  • Context Sensitive Service Delivery
  • Spatial Information Systems
  • Data Mining Techniques and Models
  • Mobile Application Development
  • Business Analytics
  • Entrepreneurship

Award

On completion of the programme students are awarded an MSc. Students may exit from the programme, at an earlier date, with a Graduate Diploma, provided they reach the specified number of credits.
