Who should participate in this course?

This course is suitable for anyone working with Children or Children with Special Needs. It would be particularly useful for Learners who have completed our Special Needs Assistant Certificate Level 5 & Level 6.

It is also intended for newly recruited volunteer tutors who will be assisting students in a group or working on a one to one basis. It will also introduce canditates to the more common learning difficulties and disabilities.

 


General Aims
  • This module is designed to provide learners with an understanding of language evolution, structure and development
  • How to use this knowledge to better support and assist a child develop their literacy skills either on a one to one or in a group setting
  • Develop an awarness of different learning styles
  • Be competent in assisting a learner to develop their literacy skills
  • Be familiar with the most common learning difficulties and disabilities

 

 


Entry Requirements

Minimum age is 17 years

All learners must be fluent English speakers

Work Experience

There is no work experience requirement for this module

 

Assessment Method

Continous assessment method based on the following:

  • Portfolio
  • Skills Demonstration
 

Further Studies

Special Needs Assistant Training Certificate FETAC Level 5 and

Advanced Certificate in the Montessori method of Education

Child Psychology FETAC Level 6

Othe Childcare FETAC Level 5 Component Certificates

 

Career Options

Volunteer tutor assisting children in a group or working on a one to one basis.

When combined with our Special Needs Assistant Training course working as a Special Needs Assistant in a primary or secondary school, crèche or day care centre.
