The Sandford Language Institute has been running courses in Japanese since 1989. Our tutors are native speakers and qualified teachers, teaching the communicative use of the language making it as relevant as possible to every day situations. All of the main language skills of Reading, Writing, Listening, speaking and Use of language (Grammar) are developed in classes. If you join a class and the level proves too high or low, moving level is no problem. Enrolment for upcoming January / February 2009 classes is now possible.

If a class has started you would like to join, it is no problem. We will either arrange a catch up class or not charge you for missed weeks.

Levels	Description
Japanese Level 1 (Summer 09)	(Beginner) This class is intended for total beginners, with no prior knowledge of the language.
Japanese Level 1 (Autumn 09)	Absolute beginners (for students who have no previous knowledge of the language)
Japanese Level 2 (Summer 09)	(Advanced beginners) for those with a basic knowledge of all the above language skills or for students who have completed the beginners course.
Japanese Level 2 (Autumn 09)	(Advanced beginners) for those with a basic knowledge of all the above language skills or for students who have completed the beginners course.
Japanese Level 3 (Summer 09)	(Lower Intermediate) I can understand and use simple structures fairly consistently, and can ask and respond to a wide range of simple questions. I have a reasonable idea of how the tense system works. I can express myself in familiar contexts, although I still make a quite a lot of mistakes.
Japanese Level 5	(Upper Intermediate) I have a good grasp of all the essential structures and can use them with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Although I have some language gaps and make some errors, I can communicate effectively and appropriately in most situations, including on unfamiliar topics. I am ready to learn more complex forms and more advanced vocabulary.
Japanese Level 3 (Autumn 09)	(Lower Intermediate) I can understand and use simple structures fairly consistently, and can ask and respond to a wide range of simple questions.
