Course Overview

The NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is the qualification for aspiring health and safety professionals. Nebosh is the globally recognised National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, and is an independent recognised awarding body.

Accident and work related ill health affect all types of workplaces and occupations. An estimated 35 million work days are lost each year as a result of workplace accidents and ill health. Management of health and safety in the workplace is not only a legal obligation and a moral imperative, but it makes good business sense. The NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety course is designed to provide you with the expertise required to undertake a promising career as a health and safety practitioner. It also provides a sound basis for progression to an MSc or more specialist study (such as the NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management).

 

Course Aims

Students completing the course will:

• Understand and apply cutting edge health and safety methodologies in the work place environment
• Apply Health and safety knowledge to familiar and unfamiliar situations
• Understand requirements, role, structure (implementation and monitoring) of an effective health and safety policy
• Make appropriate use of practice and principles to produce solutions to health and safety issues
• Explain the internal and external influences on health and safety in a range of organisations
• Prevention and control exposure to hazardous substances
• Understand psycho-social agents & ergonomic factors

Examination and Assignment Details

There are three 3-hour exams for Units A, B & C respectively and a workplace-based assignment for Unit D. Unit D assignment is an 8,000word assignment. All units are set & marked by NEBOSH. Written examination papers of three hours’ duration for each of the three core units,A, B & C. are held each year in the third full week of January and in the second full week of July at CMI.

The Unit D assessment comprises a workplace-based assignment. Only students who have enrolled with NEBOSH through CMI are eligible to register for the examination. Delegates must achieve the pass standard (45%) in all examination papers and in the workplace-based assignment to be awarded the Diploma
