The HETAC Higher Certificate in Business Studies Course is a broad based business studies course on the National Framework of Qualificaitons. This business studies course will provide a strong foundation in a range of specialised business areas such as Business Management and Organisation, Information and Communications Technology, Finance and Law. Academic Progression The HETAC Higher Certificate in Business Studies course will provide a strong base from which to pursue careers in accountancy, finance, marketing and general business. Graduates from the Higher Certificate in Business course can progress to year two of a HETAC BA (Hons) in Business Studies or a HETAC BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance or alternatively students may enter into year 3 of the HETAC BA (Ord) in Business Studies in the Institutes of Technology or Universities in Ireland. How will the Student benefit?
The knowledge skills and competence required to successfully participate and complete the HETAC Higher Certificate in Business are determined by successful completion of a Level 5 FETAC Certificate or Leaving Certificate programme or equivalent or prior learning. Applicants who do not hold a National Framework Qualification Level 5 or its equivalent, or a higher NFQ qualification, or its equivalent but who have substantial work or life experience may be eligible for admission in exceptional circumstances, subject to a satisfactory interview and/or portfolio. Applicants who hold a NFQ Level 6 or higher qualification, or its non-Irish equivalent shall be eligible for admission and also eligible for exemptions from certain modules at Stage One, subject to the arrangements for recognition of prior learning for the programme. There will be no exemptions from Stage Two of the Programme. Applicants who hold a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 5 Certificate can progress into this course. In practice this means completing the Irish Leaving Certificate in five subjects with a grade D3 or better on ordinary level papers in English or Second Language and Mathematics or completing a recognised Level 5 Certificate programme. Applicants who hold a non-Irish qualification equivalent to that of NFQ Level 5 Certificate shall be eligible for admission. In addition, applicants who are second language speakers of English must achieve an IELTS score of 5 or equivalent. The validation of such international qualifications will be confirmed in accordance with the NQAI (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland www.nqai.ie) and/or the UK-based NARIC (National Recognition Information Centre www.naric.org.uk).
