About the Course

The Journalism and Media Diploma is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in print or broadcast journalism. The course covers both print and broadcast journalism and is particularly focused on writing features and news for newspaper and radio.

The Journalism course will suit individuals with no previous experience in Journalism and will also appeal to individuals working in Journalism, public relations, marketing communications or as information officers who wish to gain a broader appreciation of the principles and practice of journalism.

Graduates of the Diploma in Journalism can pursue a career with newspapers, periodicals, journals, magazines or work as a communications executive, information or press officer for a range of different organisations. In recent years the increase in the number of local radio stations throughout Ireland provides opportunities for you to present or research content for radio programmes. The Journalism & Media Diploma has been developed to meet the needs of aspiring journalists who wish to build a career in journalism either in Ireland or the UK.

Course Aims & Objectives

The Diploma in Journalism programme explores the role of the media in modern society and focuses on the skills required to research, gather, prepare and present news and information for publication. One of the aims of the course is to develop your investigative ability which is essential if you wish to be a good reporter. You will learn how to research feature material so that you can produce excellent writing material for publication. The principles of good editing, design and print production will be explored. The different types of law relevant to media specifically in Ireland and the UK will be examined and applied to case studies.

There will be opportunities to complete writing assignments so that you can improve your own writing style, which is essential in presenting good newsletters or for writing articles for publication.

FETAC Level 5 Award - Writing Skills for Journalism: FETAC (IRL) – National Award

Students receive an international Diploma in Journalism & Media awarded by the ICM, Institute of Commercial Management (UK) through CMI. CMI is a quality approved educational institute and is registered with FETAC as an approved Education Provider.  Upon successful completion of assignments students will receive a LEVEL 5 FETAC Award in Writing Skills for Journalism from FETAC. The FETAC Award is recognised under the NFQ, National Framework of Qualifications.

Course Eligibility

This course is open to people from any educational background and with various levels of experience. Good writing skills, is helpful but not essential. Fluent level of English is required. Course Cost & Duration

The duration of the course is 20 weeks and is held in Dublin city centre once a week. The cost is 1,450 Euro and exam fees are 300 euro extra. Total cost is 1,750euro.
