Diploma in Computer Studies


The Diploma in Computer Studies is a part-time programme of training and education leading to a professional qualification in Information Technology.

Audience

This programme is particularly suitable for both:

  • End users with a strong interest in Information Technology who would like to make a career in IT
  • Those already working in IT who would like to extend their knowledge and convert their experience into a form qualification.

Delivery and Duration

The Diploma in Computer Studies is a part time programme that is delivered over two academic years. It is delivered through a combination of distance learning and classroom tuition.

Tutorials will take place at the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin.  Classes typically run from 9:30 to 5:00 on tutorial dates.

Programme Content

The subjects for each year of the Diploma are as follows:

Year One

  • Advanced ECDL plus one of the following:
  • A+ Certificate or
  • IT Project Management and Systems Development

Year Two

  • Diploma Project plus two of the following:
  • Systems Management
  • Managing Information Systems
  • Certified Internet Webmaster

Accreditation

The IPA is a recognised college of University College Dublin.  The Diploma in Computer Studies is accredited by UCD. It is at level 6 (Special Purpose Award) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

In addition to the overall accreditation, the A+, Systems Management and CIW Certificates are independently internationally accredited and are considered industry standard qualifications.

Progression

Graduates of the Diploma Programme may progress to Year 3 of our Bachelor of Business Studies Information Systems Management Programme, on completion of a short course of bridging studies. This degree has been designed to combine knowledge of information technology with a sound understanding of business and management.
