  • Unit 2: Reading and writing
    • Reading critically
    • Writing for a specific purpose
    • Observing the conventions of written English
    • Undertaking research, using sources and referencing
    • Writing clearly, confidently and expressively
    • Drafting, editing and proof-reading documents
    • Using vocabulary relevant to childcare
  • Unit 3: Non-verbal and visual communication
    • Understanding various non-verbal and visual codes that are effective in the childcare setting
    • Awareness of ways in which the body communicates
    • Appropriate non-verbal communication in a range of settings
    • The role of perception in the communication process
    • Ways in which the physical environment comunicates
    • Constructing and interpreting visual aids and images for assisting children to communicate
  • Unit 4: Communications technology
    • The impact of information technology
    • The various uses of technology to assist communication
    • The range of communication technologies for the exchnage of information
    • How to use communication technologies
    • Importance of accurately reporting telephone messages in childcare settings
    • Current relevant legislation in terms of rights, responsibilities and grievances
    • Advantages and disadvantages of the use of technology in the communications process
