Who should participate in this course?
This course will be of interest to learners who wish to explore the complex area of child development with a practical and theoretical approach.
 

General Aims
  • Understand the concept of progression in child development
  • Identify and respond appropriately to children’s developmental needs in the home and early years settings
  • Appreciate variations within the normal range of development
  • Recognise the contribution of adults to the development of children
  • Recognise the value of observation as a learning research tool for the childcare worker
  • Understand the integrated role of play and development
 

Entry Requirements

No specific entry requirements. Minimum age is 17 years. 

Learners must also be capable of undertaking assessment work to Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard. 

International learners undertaking this course should have confidence in their English language, reading, writing and comprehension skills and have at least a 5 IELTS score or equivalent.

Work Experience
A minimum of 25 hours in a childcare setting, with children 0–6 years.  These hours may be taken into account if learners undertake the FETAC level 5 work experience module within a two-year period.
 


Assessment Method
Continuous assessment, portfolio and final examination.
