CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA®) Course


Dorset College is an official CISCO Local Academy which has been certified by CISCO to offer training courses leading to CISCO CCNA ® Certified Computer Network Associate.  All of our CISCO CCNA courses are taught by CISCO Certified Instructors. This CISCO CCNA course, is designed to meet the needs of the Computer Industry and give graduates a globally recognised technical Qualification and a viable career path.

CISCO CCNA ® is a comprehensive curriculum that includes four separate modules. These modules cover the learning objectives of the CISCO CCNA ® certification exam, which is the first step in a CISCO career certification path. The curriculum for CISCO CCNA ® certification emphasises the use of decision making and problem-solving techniques to resolve networking issues.

Pre-requisites

There are no requirements for this CISCO CCNA® Computer Network Accociate Course, but, we would recommend that students have completed ECDL and/or CompTIA A+ certification.  All applicants must have competence in spoken and written English.

Course Aim

The aim of the CISCO CCNA Course is to enable:

  • Students demonstrate how to install and configure CISCO switches and routers in local and wide-area networks using various protocols.
  • Provide Level 1 troubleshooting service, and improve network performance and security.
  • Demonstrate proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software tools and equipment.

Principal Areas of Study

CISCO CCNA - Networking for Home and Small Businesses

  • Set up a personal computer system, including the operating system, interface cards, and peripheral devices
  • Plan and install a small network connecting to the Internet
  • Troubleshoot network and Internet connectivity
  • Share resources such as files and printers among multiple computers
  • Recognise and mitigate security threats to a home network
  • Configure an integrated wireless access point and wireless client

CISCO CCNA - Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP

  • Understand the structure of the Internet and how communication occurs between hosts
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot CISCO IOS devices
  • Plan a basic wired infrastructure to support network traffic
  • Configure a server to share resources and provide common Web services
  • Implement basic WAN connectivity using Telco services
  • Demonstrate proper disaster-recovery procedures and perform server backups

CISCO CCNA Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise

  • Implement a LAN for an approved network design
  • Configure a switch with VLANs and inter-switch communication
  • Implement access lists to permit or deny specific traffic
  • Implement WAN links
  • Configure routing protocols on CISCO devices
  • Perform LAN, WAN, and VLAN troubleshooting using a structured methodology and the OSI model

CISCO CCNA - Designing and Supporting Computer Networks

  • Gather customer requirements
  • Design a simple Internetwork using CISCO technology
  • Design an IP addressing scheme to meet LAN requirements
  • Create an equipment list to meet LAN design requirements
  • Install and configure a prototype Internetwork
  • Obtain and upgrade CISCO IOS software in CISCO devices

Assessment

Students are continually assessed throughout CISCO CCNA® 1 - 4 during the course. Those who successfully complete all 4 modules of this CISCO CCNA® course are eligible to earn CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA®™) certification. On Completion of CCNA® 4, the student has the requisite knowledge to sit the 640-802 CCNA® professional examination which awards the CCNA® qualification, validated by CISCO Systems Inc.

Awards

Candidates must successfully pass either the following exam options to achieve the Cisco CCNA 640-802 Certification:

Option 1:

  • ICND1 640-822  And ICND2 640-816  

Note: Successfully completion of the 640-822 examination awards the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician – CCENT qualification, validated by CISCO Systems Inc.

Option2:

  • Composite 640-802 

Students take the Cisco CCNA 640-802 On-Line examinations at our PearsonVUE testing Centre at: 8 Belvedere Place, Dublin 1. Please contact our Head Office for further details.  Examination Fees are not included in the course fee and are subject to change.
