As of the 13th of February 2009 there were over 1,818 registered assessors. A total of 4, 898 people (including those currently registered) have successfully completed BER Assessor training courses. It is expected that some proportion of these qualified people can be expected to go on to register with SEI. SEI estimates that the equivalent of 1,000 full time active BER assessors would be required to meet the demands of the residential BER market.

- 4 case study assignment (50%)
- 10 short answer questions (10%)
- Practical BER assessment (40%)
- Attendees need to acquire a mark of over 70% in each section of the examination in order to register with SEI as a BER assessor.

- CMSE Combined Building Energy Rating (BER) Assessor Training Courses for New & Existing Dwellings courses are principally classroom based with 5 days classroom contact time with the tutor via full time day or part time evening classes
- This format provides for maximum attendee - tutor interface and also the opportunity to engage with fellow attendees in class discussion and interaction to maximise knowledge transfer.
- The attendees also conduct supervised field exercises to provide real world assessment scenarios and practical learning opportunities to reinforce the classroom element of the course.
