Caredoc

What is Caredoc?

Caredoc is an out or hours family doctors service for patients with urgent medical problems who need to contact a doctor after surgeries close.

Aim

The aim of the Caredoc is to provide a high quality, easily accessible family doctor service for urgent medical problems out of normal surgery hours. Persons with identical needs receive the same standard of treatment and care, irrespective of where they live, where they are treated, what their incomes are or whether they are public patients or private patients.

Caredoc to date

Caredoc Carlow was the 1st family doctors co-op in Ireland.

  • Started 10th June 1999 in Carlow
  • November 2000, Service extended to Kilkenny
  • May 2001, service extended to South Tipperary
  • September 2003, service extended to Wexford
  • May 2004, service extended to South Wicklow
  • April 2005, service extended to Waterford
  • September 2005, service extended to Wicklow Town
  • Covers now for a population of 450,000 - 500,000 patients
  • To date Caredoc have handled over 541,110 calls
  • Nationwide there are 10 out of hours GP co-operatives and 65% of GP's are members of co-ops
